ISU was founded in 1918 and up to 1974 bore the name of Ivanovo State Pedagogical Institute.

The rank of the university, as well as high quality of training and the ability to match Russian education standards have been confirmed by the Sate Accreditation Certificate. The University is a holder of a license to rear specialists who are in contemporary demand,

The XXI century being the era of information and high technology, it is important for an individual to have quality education in order to achieve his aims and to prove competitive on the labor market.

Fundamental knowledge and versatility of graduates are the two major objectives in contemporary higher education. Our University is a model of classic education, as well as the research, cultural and educative center of the region. It has all the means to give students the above necessary training and thus to guarantee further employment.

The prestige of a university is dependent on the qualification of its teaching staff. This places ISU with the leading ten Russia's classical universities of the whole of 56 existent. ISU employs over 70 doctors and professors, as well as 250 candidates and associate professors. There are numerous members of Russian and international academies.   

International contacts are vital for any institute of higher learning. Thus, ISU international cooperation has the following directions:

• Undergraduate training and post-graduate internships for ISU students abroad;
  
• Students/staff exchange between ISU and foreign universities;
  
• Lecturers and consultants exchange;
  
• Advanced training for ISU staff abroad and enrollment in international conferences and seminars;
  
• Joint activities of prominent ISU researchers and foreign research centers.

ISU high intellectual rate enables it to support senior and junior research. It has a post-graduate department in 26 specialties, a doctorate department and six special boards for candidate and doctorate theses assessment.

By now ISU International Relations Office has established unmediated contacts with international education services of Germany, France, USA, Norway, Poland, Japan and other countries. ISU has official co-operation agreements with universities of Passau, Baireuth, Berlin (Germany), Tampere (Finland), Herning (Denmark) , Xiangtan (China), Academy of Management in Lodz (Poland), Administration of Education of Shenyan (China), Staffordshire County Council (UK).

For over 15 years ISU has housed the Department of Practical Russian for Foreign Students. At present the University hosts students from over 25 countries.

  June 2000 saw a branch of "Foreign Students In Russia" Association open its headquarters in Ivanovo.

The University is a unity of seven separate buildings and a number of comfortable dormitories. It is finely equipped with laboratories, libraries and computers. Connection to the Internet has largely expanded opportunities for research and education.

"The Students' Club" houses various associations which cover a large range of students' interests, including theatre, dancing, singing etc. The Club offers extra-curricular alternative training as well..

Students interested in sports can choose from 21 sport schools. The University owns a health center and a students camp on Rubskoye Lake.

ISU graduates are employed by research and academic institutions as well as by state and municipal administrative bodies. They work in law firms and courts. Some have gained positions of managers and chief experts in state, stock and private companies. Some graduates are now running a business of their own.

International Students Acceptance.

With half a million population Ivanovo is situated in the very heart of Russia (within the 300km distance from Moscow, 100km from Vladimir, Yaroslavl`, Kostroma) and belongs to the number of towns of the most famous tourist route "Golden Ring". Ivanovo is known as the center of textile industry of Russia. There are eight state institutions of higher education in the town.

Ivanovo State University (ISU) was founded in 1973 on the basis of Pedagogical Institute established in 1918.

ISU has much experience in working with international students. Since 1973 about a thousand specialists has graduated from the University; they successfully work all over the world ( Australia, Angola, Germany, Guinea, Dominican Republic, Yemen, Cameroon, China, Congo, Cuba, Mongolian Republic, Syria, the USA, Switzerland and others).

Currently the number of students and post - graduates studying at the University is 7, 500, 100 of them are foreigners. The university is committed to promoting student exchange and recognizes study qualifications of Universities in other countries. The University awards the degree of Doctor of Philosophy ( three year full-time program ) in specialities: physical chemistry; domestic history; theory of economics; ontology; Russian literature.

Russian language courses of different levels: for beginners, intermediate and advanced learners of Russian ( from 2 to 12 months ).

Research and practical internship for graduates who wish to upgrade their knowledge ( from September 1 to June 1 ).

Pre-sessional courses of Russian language for international students to improve students` study skills as well as their general abilities to communicate in Russian.

The University has excellent on-campus accommodation for students .

Medical insurance

Medical insurance is one of the most important items for any foreign traveler. In Russia all medical services for foreigners are now fee based. For a moderate cost, we are offering all of our students who are studying in Ivanovo State University the opportunity to purchase a Russian medical insurance policy. The policy provides a guaranteed medical care in local medical facilities.

The insurance programs are as follows:

1.       Ambulatory policlinic service includes consultations of specialists, laboratory examination, instrumental methods of examination (X-ray photography, endoscopy, ultrasound examinations), functional diagnostics, etc. The program costs 60$

 2.   Inpatient treatment includes planned and emergency hospitalization for the conduct of various operations, conservative treatment in various specialized medical institutions. It covers all diagnostic and medical operations and examinations. The program costs 150$

Registration and migration cards

On arrival at the Russian border all foreigners should fill in a migration card. It is a small piece of paper perforated in the middle. A foreigner fills in the card and one part is to be taken by the passport control officer. A student keeps the other part for the registration and exit formalities. On arrival a passport control officer on the border should put a stamp on the migration card. This stamp indicates the date of arrival and is required for registration. These cards are available on board international flights and at airports at passport control

All foreign citizens must be registered within three days after arrival. Therefore we kindly ask all students to plan their trips so that they can come to our office (room 372, 39 Ermak Street) for the registration not later than on the third day during office hours. One must bring passport, visa and the migration card for the registration. Registration is a document which confirms a person's legal stay in Russia. Registration expiration date is the last day when you can stay in Russia legally.

If a student extends his/her study, consequently the registration is also extended. We advise students to apply to the office staff in advance in order to find out all the extension details and avoid any misunderstandings

Russian police and migration services control the registration situation in the country. Therefore these services are allowed to check the documents of any person and anywhere, especially in the street. That is why students must follow these simple registration rules.
